本件は1987年、MUFON（相互UFOネットワーク）の年次会議において、ビル・イングリッシュによって公にされた。ビルおよび陸軍の同僚らは、墜落したB52爆撃機の捜索任務を命じられていた。
機体を発見した際、彼らが最初に気付いたのは、その機体がほぼ無傷の状態であったことである。墜落したというよりも、あたかもその場所に静かに「置かれた」かのような様相を呈していたという。
乗員区画に入った一行は、搭乗員らが座席に固定されたままの状態で残されているのを発見した。しかし、その遺体には典型的な損壊痕が認められた。すなわち、眼球や耳の欠損、顎周辺の皮膚組織の剥離、舌の除去などである。

さらに奇妙なことに、ビルはその数年後、NSA（国家安全保障局）のデータ分析官としてRAFチックスアンズに駐在していた際、自らと同僚が撮影したのと同一の写真を目にしたと述べている。1977年6月、彼の机上に「Grudge／Bluebook 13」と題されたUFOおよび地球外生命体に関する分厚い資料集が置かれた。内容を精査する中で、彼は複数の人間損壊事例を目にし、その中には自身らが関与したB52事案も含まれていたという。
ビルは1987年、自身の体験を公表する決断を下した。その結果、脅迫や嫌がらせを受け、一時は転居を余儀なくされたと述べている。
This incident was brought into the public domain in 1987 at the MUFON conference by Bill English. Bill and his Army colleagues were tasked with locating a downed B52 Bomber aircraft. Once they had located the aircraft the first thing they noticed was how intact the craft was. It looked like it had simply been placed where it was, rather than having crashed.
Once they entered the crew compartment they found the crewman of the B52 still strapped to their seats, but with the typical mutilation injuries—missing eyes, ears, the flesh around their jaws stripped, tongues removed etcetera.
One of the team removed a crewman from his seat and noticed that the airmen had had his anus cored out. Photos were taken at the scene. They then detonated the craft and returned to base. They reported their findings to their superiors and were told never to talk about it less there be serious repercussions.
Bizarrely, Bill said he saw the same photographs he and his group had taken when he was stationed at RAF Chicksands years later working for the NSA as a Data Analyst. In June 1977 a thick volume on UFOs/ETs called "Grudge/Bluebook 13" was placed on his desk and perusing through it he came across several human mutilation cases—including the B52 case he and his team had handled.
Bill decided to go public with his experience in 1987. Consequently he was threatened and harassed and at one point had to move house.

いわゆる墜落の痕跡や滑走跡のようなものもなくて、それが最初からかなり不自然だと感じました。私たちは非常脱出口のひとつから機内に入りました。すると、乗員全員が座席に固定されたままの状態で見つかりましたが、家畜の損壊事件のように損壊していたんです。舌はなくなっていて、よく見ると顎のあたりはきれいに削ぎ落とされたようになっていました。
部下の一人が遺体を座席から外したところ、直腸や性器が、まるでビスケット型で抜いたみたいに、円筒状にくり抜かれているのを発見しました。
その一連の作業の中で、私たちは見つけたものをすべて写真に収め、それから急いで現場を離れました。サイゴンに戻ると、撮影したフィルムや書類、地図など、集めたものをすべて引き渡しました。
そして私たちは、『この情報を漏らせば命はない。だから口を閉ざしていろ』と、はっきり言い渡されたんです。」
What we came on was a fully intact B-52 aircraft that looked like it had just been grabbed out of the sky and gently put down on the ground. There was no crash. There was no sign of a crash.
You know, there was no crash trail or anything like that, which we thought was pretty odd to begin with. And we managed to gain entry through one of the emergency escape hatches where we found the entire crew, still strapped in their seats, mutilated like cattle, tongues were missing, and closer examination showed that, you know, jaws were, you know, scraped clean.
One of my guys took one of the bodies out of the seat and discovered that his rectum and genitals had been literally cored out like, you know, like a biscuit cutter had been used.
In the process of all of this, we had taken photographs of everything we found, and we got the hell out of there. In Saigon, we turned over all of our films, all the documents, maps, and everything else that we had collected.
We were basically told, you will die if you disclose any of this information, so keep your traps shut.
