被害者は、マレーシア・タマン・セントサ在住の58歳の男性、テン・チン・ヒアン（Teng Ching Hiang）氏である。

同氏の行方不明は2020年3月に届け出られたが、遺体が発見された正確な日付は公表されていない。ただし、発見時刻は同年午前9時30分ごろとされ、発見場所はマレーシア・ペナン州ブキ・メルタジャムに位置する森林公園「フタン・リプール・チェロック・トック・クン」であった。警察への通報は、2020年3月26日に行われている。

テン氏は単独で登山を行っていたとされ、当時、新型コロナウイルス感染拡大防止のため発令されていた「移動制限令（Movement Control Order／PKP）」を理由に、友人から登山を控えるよう勧められていたにもかかわらず、それに反して山に入ったと伝えられている。

解剖結果では、犯罪性を示す証拠は認められないと結論づけられた。その後、当局は改めて移動制限令（PKP）の遵守を呼びかけるとともに、登山や屋外活動を控えるよう一般市民に対する注意喚起を行った。

The victim is Teng Ching Hiang, 58 years old, a resident of Taman Sentosa.

 

His disappearance was reported in March 2020, but the date his body was discovered has not been released. The time of the discovery however, is reported as 9:30am at Hutan Lipur Cherok Tok Kun, Bukit Mertajam in Malaysia, and a police report was made on March 26, 2020.

Teng Ching Hiang was solo mountain climbing, apparently going against a friend's recommendation not to do so due to  a "Movement Control Order" by the PKP.

An autopsy report concluded there was no evidence of a crime. Subsequently, a public warning was issued urging compliance with the Movement Control Order (PKP) and to avoid climbing and outdoor activities.
