(La Reforma/Editorial Staff) – On the morning of last Sunday, a rural producer, Carlos Amaya, whose farm is near La Reforma, found 29 dead cattle, three of them mutilated. On the same property, ten years ago, a water tank mysteriously emptied itself. “It wasn’t due to disease, it was something strange. My wife was told that something similar happened recently in Quehué—it's believe it or not,” he told the local municipal radio station.
The incident became known just hours ago, when the director of the municipal radio station, Marta Lagos, interviewed Carlos and his wife Berta, who detailed the strange event. The farmer recounted, “On Thursday and Friday, I was gathering the animals, and on Saturday we castrated calves and marked them. In the evening, I let them out to graze.”
They also slaughtered one animal and ate some of the meat for dinner. The next morning, around 10 a.m., Carlos and his friend Elisandro Valdez went out to check the fields and were shocked by what they discovered.
Carlos Amaya shared how the discovery affected him: “About two kilometers from the farmhouse, we found a dead animal... we walked a bit further and found another, and a bit further, more—altogether, within a short distance, we found 29. We were really shocked. I asked myself, ‘What happened here?’, said the producer.
“We also noticed something strange: three of them were missing their jaws—that is, the lower part and the tongue. And the others were bloated. There were 27 cows that were due to calve in the spring, and two calves. They had all been confined, and we let them out in the afternoon,” he added.
“The veterinarian told me the cows didn’t die from blackleg or anthrax, and that’s true because we ate meat from one of the animals we slaughtered. Now we’re testing the water, but I’m ruling that out. Something strange happened here,” Carlos stated.
Previous Incidents
In the radio interview, the producer recalled that this wasn’t the first time strange things had happened on his property. “Ten years ago, we filled both water tanks and I went to 25 de Mayo. The next day, when I returned, I found one tank completely empty and the other had overflowed. We also found two cows with their tails cut off. The vet said it was strange because the cuts were perfect and there was no bleeding—the wounds were burned shut (cauterized). At that time, I didn’t want to believe something unexplainable had happened. But now, I do. It's believe it or not,” he admitted.
